Gill Barnsley, co-organiser of the Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium, died peacefully at Lorn and Islands hospital, Oban on 5th May 2017. She will be sorely missed by Colin, friends, family and colleagues.

A gathering to celebrate Gill’s life will be held on Thursday 25 May at 1pm in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, Oban. All are welcome; Colin hopes that as many of Gill’s friends, colleagues, neighbours and fellow paddlers as possible will come to the gathering.

Colin requests that bright, casual/outdoor clothing be worn. Family flowers only. A retiral collection/donations will be taken for the Macmillan Suite at Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban.

Next Symposium

The Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium is taking a wee break in 2017 - giving everyone a chance to practise their ceilidh dancing before the next Symposium! We hope to see you back at the Symposium in 2018.

In the meantime, happy paddling and we look forward to seeing you at Kari-Tek to help you find your perfect kayaking gear.

2016 Symposium - 30 April to 2 May

Karitek are pleased to announce the 2016 Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium: a symposium with a difference! In a fantastic setting on the Argyll coast, our symposium has a real focus on providing quality coaching sessions in the right conditions for learning. With one coach to every six participants and a maximum of 60 participants, you'll have a much more personal experience than at other symposiums. Our aim is for you to thoroughly enjoy the weekend and to come away with a new or much improved set of skills.

The Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium will be held again at Tayvallich, Argyll, Scotland from Saturday 30 April to Monday 2 May 2016. Registration is held on Friday afternoon/early evening 29 April. To help the weekend event go with a swing, the Symposium also features a ceilidh dance with live band on Saturday night. Throughout the weekend there are also opportunities to try out different kayaks and paddles.

Symposium places are strictly limited and must be pre-booked.

2016 Programme

With a wide choice of practical sea kayak sessions over the 3 days for beginners, novices and improvers, this is the chance to improve your paddling technique or tackle a new aspect of boat handling. With expert input from our coaches, you'll increase your skill level and confidence. After proving successful over the last two years, participants can choose their preferred courses at time of booking and we'll do our utmost to meet your wishes. We're currently putting the 2016 programme in place - take a look at our  2015 programme for an idea of what's gone before.
