Sea kayak coaching & guiding

Gill Barnsley, co-organiser of the Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium, died peacefully at Lorn and Islands hospital, Oban on 5th May 2017. She will be sorely missed by Colin, friends, family and colleagues.

A gathering to celebrate Gill’s life will be held on Thursday 25 May at 1pm in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, Oban. All are welcome; Colin hopes that as many of Gill’s friends, colleagues, neighbours and fellow paddlers as possible will come to the gathering.

Colin requests that bright, casual/outdoor clothing be worn. Family flowers only. A retiral collection/donations will be taken for the Macmillan Suite at Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban.

Next Symposium

The Mid West Sea Kayak Symposium is taking a wee break in 2017 - giving everyone a chance to practise their ceilidh dancing before the next Symposium! We hope to see you back at the Symposium in 2018.

In the meantime, happy paddling and we look forward to seeing you at Kari-Tek to help you find your perfect kayaking gear.

How to Book

The Symposium fee for the three days of courses (including Saturday night ceilidh) is £180 per person.

Please make cheques payable to Karitek.

*If you cancel, we'll do our best to find another taker for your place, but refunds can only be given if we manage to do so, sorry.

In the extremely unlikely event that we need to cancel, we'll of course refund your payment in full.

 Choose your courses

You can choose your preferred courses from our provisional programme featured on the booking form. You don't need to cover the entire 3 days just now, but if you wish to you can! Of course we cannot guarantee that every course will run, but we'll be doing our utmost to ensure that your wishes are met. And if all this is new and you've no idea, just tick the beginner box on the booking form and we'll choose the best courses for you.

Kit Hire

While we expect most participants to have their own boat, paddle & basic kit, we do have a limited number of boats available for hire, cost £30 per boat/day, £90 per boat/3 days (including paddle, buoyancy aid and spraydeck). We also have a limited amount of outerwear (paddling trousers & cag) to hire at £10 for the 3 days  - sizes and colours not guaranteed! Contact Karitek before the symposium to reserve - kit available on a first come, first served basis. Please email or call us on 01292 571019.

Accommodation and Meals

The symposium fee does not cover accommodation or meals, but there are plenty of options close by and we've arranged for the excellent Tayvallich cafe to offer packed lunches and other refreshments from the Symposium Hub at the village hall.
